The black-footed ferret has many behavioral adaptations such as hunting at night, hiding in prairie dog holes, and climbing trees. The ferret hunts at night because the prairie dog (the prey) is asleep and the ferret can kill the prairie dog easily. Also if the black-footed ferret is being followed by another predator the ferret will jump into a prairie dog hole for protection. In addition, the hole will be the ferrets home after the prairie dog has been killed or eaten. The black-footed ferret will climb a tree if necessary. It will only climb a tree when it is terrified or has no place to hide.
